We’ve been supporting people with visual impairment since 2012, enabling them to take part in activities which sighted people may take for granted. Through the combined efforts of 8 trustees,1 part-time staff and 20 volunteers we provide opportunities for friendship and peer support together with access to information and resources to maintain an independent lifestyle.

Sight loss can be a devastating and challenging reality for many people in our local communities and Helping hands for the blind is committed to promoting independence and opportunities for people with severe or partial sight impairments including them and their carers to access any support they may need.
We provide a wide range of support and activities including weekly social coffee mornings, excursions, an annual Garden party, Family Skittle nights, Quiz nights, simple exercise sessions, IT support and much more. Click here to check out our events.
We also encourage our visually impaired members to be involved in the delivery of our activities and a number of our members and volunteers play a vital and much-appreciated role on our management and activity committee.

We have a small team of dedicated volunteers that support the charity and our members, our trustees of the charity are also unpaid volunteers who bring their passion and professional skills to aid the charity’s development. Despite being few in number we aim to support any of the people in Basingstoke and the adjacent Hampshire Boroughs. From our experience, we know that the numbers of visually impaired people, and their carers, seeking our help will only increase and raising the necessary funds over the long term is key to our success.
