Visual impairment awareness for professionals
Helping Hands for the Blind have developed an information and practical based training session about Sight loss.
Whether you are reading this now within a school, a private business, a doctor’s surgery or eye clinic, there is a need to consider how effectively to support people with sight loss.
Our mini Visual impairment awareness training will give your staff the skills, knowledge and confidence to be able to offer quality support.
The 3-hour training course is delivered at our offices located in the centre of Basingstoke and is designed to give your staff guidance to support someone with a visual impairment.
The course is an interactive session and covers:
• Effective communication techniques
• Recognising people with sight loss, including the equipment they use
• Learning about what visual impairment means – what are the types of sight loss?
• Challenging perceptions of sight loss
• Learning how to safely guide visually impaired people.
You will get a chance to try our simulation spectacles – and get an idea what people with common eye conditions might see.
To ensure everyone else knows your commitment to supporting people with sight loss you will receive a certificate of completion and your organisation will become an Approved Provider for Helping Hands for the Blind.
We will give you:
1. “Sight Aware “program logo, to be used wherever you wish.
2. A certificate to display.
3. Listing on our website.
