Help with I T at Home.
People throughout Basingstoke and the surrounding areas who are visually-impaired and would benefit from help adapting their computers. If your sight is making it difficult to see what’s on the screen changes such as larger fonts and icons, different colours or a change in contrast can often make the computer easier to use.
Helping hands for the blind has a small team of volunteers who will visit you at home to make these adjustments. A typical visit will last an hour or two. The volunteer will discuss with you what difficulties you are having, and at the end of the visit will explain what changes have been made and give you a chance to check that they are an improvement.
•All volunteers are trained In house.
We take up references and each person is checked by the Criminal Records Bureau.
•The visit is free; however we do ask that you will consider making a donation towards the cost of the visit, if you are able.
•The volunteers do not provide training. If your problems are about using the computer rather than about seeing the screen, please talk to us about suitable training at our venue.
The focus of the home visits is on changes that can be made without paying for specialist software. However, each individual’s eyes are different and if you’re unable to benefit from this type of support, we will invite you to discuss alternative solutions.
